The challenge.

The client, as an employee of everyone’s favorite fruit company, needed a mobile iPhone version of the site to accommodate guests on the go.

The site needed to be able to be accessible to users on the go, providing them with the crucial details they might need while gift-shopping, on route to the ceremony, or just around town.

Most importantly, the site was expected to utilize the advanced hardware and software features of the iPhone to provide a smooth and rich browsing experience.

Other notes.

The normal site will redirect to the mobile site if the viewer is using either an iPod Touch or an iPhone. Navigating to the mobile site from any other device will show a border around the screen area that represents what would be seen in the iPhone.

The solution.

The site contains an add to calendar button to integrate the iPhone’s calendar app with the site, a touch-sensitive photograph gallery, and a directions page that integrates with the Google maps iPhone app, allowing for directions from the user’s current location to the location of the event.

The site’s styles reorient as the phone is tilted (based on the accelerometer, every 90˚), efficiently utilizing the available space on the small screen. The site is also set to hide the search and address bar on page load to allow more viewable space. To regain the address bar area, the user simple scrolls upwards.
